End of free anti-Covid tests on October 15: PCRs will cost 44 euros, antigens minimum 22 euros

From October 15, unvaccinated and non-prescription adults will have to pay to be tested for Covid-19. PCR and antigen tests will continue to be reimbursed for medical reasons.

From October 15, when Covid-19 screening tests will no longer be systematically free, PCR tests will cost 44 euros for adults not vaccinated without a prescription, reveals franceinfo Thursday, September 7. Antigenic tests will be charged 22 euros if they are carried out in the laboratory. On the other hand, in pharmacies, you will have to pay 25 euros, or even 30 euros on weekends. Self-tests at 5.20 euros will no longer be free when they are carried out in front of the pharmacist.

But there will be some exceptions for this end of the 100% coverage of screening tests. The tests will thus remain free for people just over 18, who are still studying in high school.

The tests will remain free for those vaccinated

All unvaccinated adults, but with symptoms, will also be able to access a free test upon presentation of a prescription. It must be less than 48 hours old, prescriptions by email after a teleconsultation will be accepted. This also applies to people who need a test to have an operation. Patients with a vaccine contraindication certificate must present it to the professional who performs the test in order to benefit from the free service.

For people already vaccinated, the tests will remain free. For those with symptoms or who are going to undergo surgery, you will just have to present the vaccination certificate to be tested for free. Screenings will also remain free for all contact cases reported by health insurance.

Finally, to confirm the diagnosis of an antigen test, it will suffice to present it in the following two days to the laboratory to access the free PCR test.
