Military officers condemn CIA torture as a stain on America

Seven senior US http://wejuriya.bravesites.com/ officers serving on a military jury have rebuked the alleged CIA torture of a prisoner as "a stain on the moral fiber of America". A clemency letter from most of the panel, published by the https://www.folkd.com/user/wejuriya New York Times, condemns the treatment of Majid Khan.

Khan admits working http://www.authorstream.com/wejuriya/ as an al-Qaeda courier and has been in custody since being captured in Pakistan in 2003. His testimony was the first of its kind by a detainee held in an overseas http://wejuriya.simplesite.com/450957121 CIA site in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.

He https://www.businesslistings.net.au/Weight_Loss/Berlin/https__flekosteelbalzam_com_de_diaetoxil_kapseln_germany_/671896.aspx testified last week about alleged abuse including beatings, waterboarding and being kept chained up in the dark. He said that "the more I cooperated, the more I was tortured" in CIA custody and https://goldssmithss.freeforums.net/thread/85/https-flekosteelbalzam-diaetoxil-kapseln-germany said he went on to make up lies in order to appease interrogators.

Khan grew up in https://www.xen-factory.com/index.php?members/wejuriya.18212/ Pakistan and moved to the US aged 16. He said he had been a "young, impressionable, vulnerable kid" when he was recruited to the organisation http://tupalo.com/en/users/3249040 and, now 41, says he rejects both Al-Qaeda and terrorism.

His lawyer said https://www.classifiedads.com/office_services/573c1nrxd3945 his client was subject to "heinous and vile acts of torture" in custody despite sharing information with US intelligence officials from the outset of his detention. https://www.deviantart.com/wejuriya/art/Diaetoxil-Germany-Weight-Loss-896643501?ga_submit_new=10%3A1635765569 Khan read out a 39-page statement to a hearing at the Guantánamo Bay naval base in Cuba last week.

His testimony https://www.expatriates.com/cls/49120277.html detailed humiliating stretches at multiple sites where he was stripped nude, kept hooded and forced to undergo procedures including enemas. He also described incidents of sleep https://devpost.com/wejuriya?ref_content=user-portfolio&ref_feature=portfolio&ref_medium=global-nav deprivation, forced feeding and being hung up in chains by interrogators.

Much of what he https://www.magcloud.com/user/wejuriya detailed echoes findings of a key report released in 2014 which examined the CIA's interrogation programme. Khan was sentenced to 26 years in prison - the lower end https://sketchfab.com/wejuriya of sentencing guidelines - last week after admitting helping al-Qaeda plots in 2002.

But in a letter urging http://forum.zidoo.tv/index.php?members/we-juriya.91878/ clemency, seven of the eight-member military jury said Khan's treatment "was of no practical value in terms of intelligence, or any other tangible benefit to US interests". "Instead, it is a stain on the moral fiber of America; the treatment of Mr Khan https://applecraft.org/community/members/we-juriya.42674/ in the hands of US personnel should be a source of shame for the US government," the letter went on.

US reports say https://xtremepape.rs/members/wejuriya.317674/#about a plea deal, based on the 41-year-old's cooperation with officials in the intervening period since he admitted guilt in 2012, could lead to his release as early as https://forums.prsguitars.com/members/we-juriya.40535/ February after almost two decades in US custody.

The conventional https://forum.omegarealm.com/members/wejuriya.60595/#about argument against torture is based on a simple premise: it does not work. Suspects lie, to avoid the pain. The military officers stated this in their https://www.scoop.it/u/we-juriya letter: Majid Khan told his interrogators nothing useful.

As military historians and https://letterboxd.com/wejuriya/ policymakers know, however, torture does work, sometimes. Dennis Blair, a former director of national intelligence for President Obama, said that these types of interrogations can provide "high value information"; other former US officials said that the interrogations helped https://mc-drugs.com/members/wejuriya.25113/#about US authorities develop a better understanding of the structure of al-Qaeda.

Yet the military https://about.me/wejuriya officers made another argument in their letter, one that carries more weight: they objected to torture on moral grounds. This means that even if torture does work, it is an instrument that is morally reprehensible. https://www.dotafire.com/profile/wejuriya-104878?profilepage The officers have taken an important step towards a reckoning with the past, and made it less likely that US officials will https://www.degreeinfo.com/index.php?members/we-juriya.97019/ repeat this mistake in the future.

A trial date has been https://ello.co/wejuriya/post/xf8--ykxbbhhsux625335g set for Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, the alleged architect of the 9/11 attacks on the US. Mr Mohammad will be tried along with four other men at a military court in Guantánamo Bay from 11 January 2021. The men are charged with war crimes including https://jozoo.co.uk/cv/101934 terrorism and the murder of almost 3,000 people.

The five men will be https://us.classi4u.com/miami/https-flekosteelbalzam-com-de-diaetoxil-kapseln-germany-pid366591 the first to go on trial, nearly 20 years since the devastating attacks on New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. If found guilty, the group all face the death penalty. Mr Mohammad was captured in Pakistan in 2003, and transferred https://advertisingflux.com/place-free-ads-usa/?step=finish&listing_id=285268&transaction_id=132ba5ba2fee64f8cd3959d9b45fcb35 to America's Guantánamo base in Cuba where he was later charged.

But attempts to prosecute https://wejuriya.affiliatblogger.com/56065115/https-flekosteelbalzam-com-de-diaetoxil-kapseln-germany him and the rest of the group have been mired in delays. During an earlier attempt to try him before a military https://wejuriya.fitnell.com/45126937/https-flekosteelbalzam-com-de-diaetoxil-kapseln-germany tribunal in 2008, he said he intended to plead guilty and would welcome martyrdom.

In 2009 the https://player.me/wejuriya/about Obama administration, which had pledged to close Guantánamo, tried to move the trial to New York but reversed its decision in 2011 after opposition from Congress. The five men were eventually charged in June 2011 with offences similar to those they were accused of by George W https://forum.kajgana.com/members/wejuriya.149950/#about Bush's administration.

The Pentagon has https://unloze.com/members/wejuriya.6965/#about previously said Mr Mohammed admitted he was responsible "from A to Z" for the 11 September 2001 attacks. US prosecutors allege that he was involved with a host http://wejuriyaa.canariblogs.com/https-flekosteelbalzam-com-de-diaetoxil-kapseln-germany-20773629 of other terrorist activities.

These include the 2002 http://wejuriyaa.canariblogs.com/https-flekosteelbalzam-com-de-diaetoxil-kapseln-germany-20773632 nightclub bombing in Bali, Indonesia; the 1993 World Trade Center bombing; the murder of American journalist https://quomon.com/Question/Preview/3793264 Daniel Pearl; and a failed 2001 attempt to blow up an airliner using a shoe bomb.

Hearings for the https://dribbble.com/shots/16776109-https-flekosteelbalzam-com-de-diaetoxil-kapseln-germany?added_first_shot=true forthcoming trial are planned for next month. Lawyers for the group are trying to bar the use of confessions the defendants made to the FBI in 2006. They argue that the confessions are unusable in court https://pubhtml5.com/bwtb/exyc/ because of the harsh interrogations carried out during their detention.

Khalid Sheikh https://www.spreaker.com/show/https-flekosteelbalzam-com-de-diaetoxil- Mohammed has alleged he was repeatedly tortured during his detention in Cuba. CIA documents confirm he was subjected to simulated drowning, https://www.weddingwire.com/website/we-juriya-and-wejuriya known as waterboarding, 183 times.

The four other men - https://www.otosaigon.com/members/wejuriya.361828/#about Walid bin Attash, Ramzi bin al-Shibh, Ammar al-Baluchi and Mustafa al-Hawsawi - were also interrogated by the CIA in a network of overseas prisons, known as https://neuroskillzclub.com/members/wejuriya.30049/#about "black sites", before they were passed on to the US military.
